Frequently asked questions
How do I add GST to a price?
Multiply the price by the GST rate and add it. For ₹1,000 at 18%: GST = 1,000 × 18 ÷ 100 = ₹180, so the total is ₹1,180.
How do I remove GST from an amount that already includes it?
Divide the amount by (100 + rate) and multiply by 100 to get the taxable value. For ₹1,180 at 18%: 1,180 × 100 ÷ 118 = ₹1,000 taxable value and ₹180 GST.
When do I charge CGST + SGST and when IGST?
If the buyer's place of supply is in the same state as you, charge CGST and SGST — half the rate each (18% = 9% CGST + 9% SGST). If the place of supply is another state, charge the full rate as IGST.
What are the GST rates now?
Since 22 September 2025 the main GST slabs are 5% and 18%, with 40% for a small list of luxury and sin goods. Some items are exempt (0%), and special rates such as 0.25% and 3% apply to precious stones, gold, silver and jewellery. Always check the rate for your exact HSN or SAC code.
